1. No poverty
These targets aim to reduce social discrimination and exclusion, ensuring people have equal rights including access to basic services, while also reducing people exposure to economic, social and environmental shocks.
2. Zero hunger
These targets aim to ensure everyone has access to safe and nutritious food, including increasing the productivity of small-scale food producers, implementing sustainable farming practices and ending to counterproductive trade restrictions in world agricultural markets.
3. Good health and well-being
These targets aim to reduce mortality and preventable deaths, including from non-communicable diseases, hazardous chemicals and air, water and soil pollution, while also promoting mental health, ensuring universal health coverage and access to sexual and reproductive health care services.
4. Quality education
These targets aim to ensure that all girls and boys have access to quality early childhood development and care, the right to primary and secondary education, that men and women are provided access to technical education and that a substantial proportion of adults achieve literacy and numeracy.
5. Gender equality
These targets aim to end all forms of discrimination and violence against women and girls everywhere and secure women’s full and effective participation and equal opportunities for leadership at all levels of decision making.
6. Clean water and sanitation
These targets aim to achieve universal access to safe and affordable drinking water and sanitation, improved water quality, increased water-use efficiency, the reduction of people suffering from water scarcity and the protection of water-related ecosystems.
7. Affordable and clean energy
These targets aim to ensure universal access to affordable, reliable and modern energy services, increasing the share of renewable energy, doubling energy efficiency and improving the access to and promotion of clean energy development.
8. Decent work and economic growth
These targets aim to increase global resource efficiency in consumption and production and decouple economic growth from environmental degradation with a focus on employment and decent work supported by labour rights and safe working environments.
9. Industry, innovation and infrastructure
These targets aim to upgrade and develop quality, reliable, sustainable and resilient infrastructure and to retrofit industries to increase efficiency and accelerate adoption of clean and environmentally technologies.
10. Reduced inequalities
These targets aim to achieve and sustain income growth of the bottom 40% of the population, empower and promote the social, economic and political inclusion of all and ensure equal opportunity by eliminating discriminatory laws, policies and practices and promoting appropriate legislation.
11. Sustainable cities and communities
These targets aim to ensure access for all to adequate, safe and affordable housing, basic services including transport, protecting the world’s cultural and natural heritage, and reducing the adverse per capita environmental impact of cities.
12. Responsible consumption and production
These targets aim to achieve the sustainable management and efficient use of natural resources encouraging companies to report and focus on food waste and the environmentally sound management of chemicals and waste through the life cycle.
13. Climate action
These targets aim to strengthen resilience and adaptive capacity to climate-related hazards and natural disasters, integrate climate change measures into national policies and promote mechanisms for raising capacity for effective climate change-related planning.
14. Life below water
These targets aim to prevent and significantly reduce marine pollution of all kinds, sustainably manage and protect marine and coastal ecosystems, minimize and address the impacts of ocean acidification, and effectively regulate harvesting and end destructive fishing practices.
15. Life on land
These targets aim to ensure the conservation, restoration and sustainable use of terrestrial and inland freshwater ecosystems, halt deforestation, substantially increase reforestation, combat desertification and restore degraded land and soil and halt the loss of biodiversity through the end of poaching and trafficking of protected species.
16. Peace, justice and strong institutions
These targets aim to significantly reduce all forms of violence and related death rates everywhere, end abuse, exploitation, trafficking and violence against children, significantly reduce illicit financial flows and ensure responsive, inclusive, participatory and representative decision-making at all levels.
17. Partnerships for the goals
For such partnerships to succeed, every party needs a shared vision of where we need to get to, plus confidence that all other parties are willing and able to play their part.
