Phil Cumming

Phil was part of the small team responsible for engaging global and regional teams/leaders within M&S to develop and agree the commitments for Plan A 2025. He has overall responsibility for M&S’ transparency programme, data & digital strategy and ensuring that appropriate arrangements are in place to deliver Plan A.

Prior to joining M&S in 2015, Phil developed and managed the delivery of world-class sustainability programmes for some of the world’s best-known organisations including Kingfisher plc and the London 2012 Olympic Games and Paralympic Games.

Acting in a non-executive capacity, Phil sits on the Boards of Julie’s Bicycle (a highly respected charity inspiring and enabling the cultural sector to lead a collective response towards a low-carbon economy) and Resource Futures (a Certified B Corporation with a 25-year heritage of promoting sustainable resource management). He also Chaired the development of BS 8001 believed to be the world’s first circular economy business standard.

In recognition of this skills and expertise and contributions he has made to the wider profession, Phil has recently been made an IEMA Fellow, the main body representing environment and sustainability professionals in the UK, and sits on their Strategic Advisory Council.
