The EMRC recognises the crucial role every business must play in creating a Future-Fit Society. One that is environmentally restorative, socially just and economically inclusive, and we are committed to playing our part.

We aspire to become a Future-Fit Business because we believe that our long-term success is tied to the value we provide to society and the environment. That means eliminating the potential negative impacts associated with what we buy, what we sell, and what we do.

As an historically landfill-centric business, the EMRC came to the realisation that a shift towards greater resource recovery, sustainability and circularity was needed and was vital to the EMRC’s future success, to identify and understand the positive and possible negative impacts we have as an organisation on a local and global level.

This is an industry-wide challenge, and the EMRC is committed to creating positive impacts wherever we can, to speed up society’s transition to future-fitness through our own actions and by assisting others on the journey.

The EMRC positively assists our local community through examples such as our Care to Rewear program, enabling people to swap and obtain quality clothing for free, reducing textile waste to landfill, through our Circular Energy Recovery Plant, generating greener energy options as well as a valuable biochar byproduct from what would have been wood waste going directly to landfill and through our FOGO processing, creating a a quality soil improver product from household’s food and garden organics waste .

We acknowledge that incremental improvement of the status quo isn’t enough, so we intend to continue to transform the way we do things and lead by example, encouraging other businesses to do the same by sharing our progress.

The EMRC is proud to be recognised as a Future-Fit System Changer.
